Solar electric (or PV) modules convert sunlight to electricity. The PV modules generate direct current (DC) electricity and send it to the inverter.
The inverter transforms the DC power into AC electricity for ordinary household needs. It often connects to the electrical panel, though in some cases, connecting it to another place in your electrical distribution system is preferable.
Your system interacts with the utility grid through “net metering.” When you aren’t using all the electricity your system produces, your meter will spin backwards, pushing electricity back to the grid and crediting your account.
Utility Power Grid
The utility power grid acts like an endless, free battery that stores the solar energy you produce during the day for use at night.
